Hello! Here is the news from our class this week!
Parents, there is a new field trip permission slip that we need completed and returned to school with your child as soon as possible. You can download the form here.
Also, if your child would like to sign up for SSC (Student Service Council), forms are available outside of Mrs. Schmid's office. All completed forms should be returned to her by September 5.
Scholastic book order forms will begin to come home in your child's orange folder this week. If you would like to order books online, our class code is: MGVVW.
I look forward to seeing you all at Parent Night and our Hopes and Dreams conferences later on this week!
Math - We are reviewing concepts regarding the language of chance, differences with number grids, and money.
Homework:
- 1.5 due Monday, Aug. 25
- 1.6 due Tuesday
- 1.7 due Wednesday
- 1.8 due Thursday
- 1.9 due Wednesday, Sept. 3
Reading - We are tracking our thinking as readers on post-its, while growing our reading lives through thoughtful discussions with our reading partners. For homework, students should read about 4 nights a week, for a total of 2 hours per week. They should log their reading each day in their reading logs, and calculate and log the total number of pages and minutes read at the end of the week.
Writing - We are collecting ideas for our first writing unit, Personal Narratives. We are thinking about special moments in our lives related to a special person, place, and "first time" memories. We are listing these special moments in our writer's notebooks, and choosing one or two to write about. For homework, students will choose a moment they have listed about a special person, or special place in their lives, and write 1 full page in their writer's notebook as a beginning draft on that idea. Students will bring home a writer's notebook homework checklist. They should include all items on the checklist in their writing assignments, and turn it in along with their writing homework next Wednesday.
Have a great week!
