The Habitat for Humanity home banks went home on Friday. They should be brought back to school next Monday, October 6.
Thank you to those of you who attended the Everyday Math online workshop last week. Here is the link for troubleshooting. https://www.everydaymathonline.com/support.html
Here's the news for this week.
Math - We are finishing up Unit 2 this week, practicing addition and subtraction algorithms. We will have our assessment on Thursday. A study guide for Unit 2 will go home on Tuesday. It is not mandatory that students complete and turn this in , but they may complete it as a part of their required 90 minutes of math activity this week.
Homework:
- 2.8 due Tuesday
- 2.9 due Wednesday
Reading - We are still closely studying the characters in our just right books. This week we will talk specifically about character traits, how characters are complicated, and how they can change. For homework, students should read about 4 nights a week, for a total of 2 hours per week. They should log their "just right" reading each day in their reading logs, and calculate and log the total number of pages and minutes read at the end of the week.
Writing - We are wrapping up our personal narratives this week. We will be working on revising and editing before writing our final drafts. We will celebrate the hard work we have been putting into our writing on Friday! Our students have grown so much over the course of this unit in their understanding of personal narrative writing. For homework this week, they should choose a small moment (listed or unlisted in their notebooks) and write long about it (in their writer's notebooks), to showcase all they have learned. They should remember to: stretch out the heart of their story by showing and not telling, and invite their readers in though action, setting, or dialogue in the beginning, and end their pieces meaningfully and with purpose.
It's going to be a great week!
