Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Congratulations to David, Kayleigh, and Nick for having their artwork submitted into the Lovett Student Art Show at the High Museum on Sunday!
Here is the news for our class this week.
Math - We have finished Unit 6 and will review for our end of unit assessment on Monday. Our assessment will be on Tuesday. On Thursday, we will begin Unit 7, revisiting multiplication and division. We will look specifically this week at patterns in products and take a multiplication facts survey.
Homework
- 7.1 due Friday
- 7.2 due Monday, Feb. 2
This week students should review their times 6 multiplication facts. We will have a quiz next Monday on just these facts. In addition to completing the review packet as part of their 90 minutes of required math activity, the kiddos can practice with flash cards, and play multiplication math games. Don't forget to log your 90 minutes of math activity in your log!
Reading - We are wrapping up our Native American social studies unit in reading workshop, with some close reading of non-fiction texts, and we will spend some time reading our "just right" fiction books in class. For homework, students should read about 4 nights a week, for a total of 2 hours per week. The children will continue to bring home "just-right" non-fiction books that they can log as part of their 120 minutes of weekly reading. They should log their "just right" reading each day in their reading logs and calculate and log the total number of pages and minutes read at the end of the week. Students are also encouraged to log any additional "free reading" they do at home, as well.
Writing - We are going to peer edit and revise our drafts with a partner, and finish publishing our non-fiction books this week. We will have a publishing party on Friday! Next week, we will begin our study of persuasive reviews. For homework, please find at least one published persuasive review and bring it to school. You might find a review on a book, movie, restaurant, game, sports team, etc. Newspapers, magazines, and the internet are all good sources to search for reviews.
Looking forward to a wonderful week!
