Hello! Here is the news for our class this week.
Parents, please be aware that individual picture re-takes will be on Tuesday. Scholastic book order forms went home in your child's orange folder last week. The deadline to order books will be next Friday, Nov. 7.
Math - Unit 3 assessments will be sent home this week. Parents, please make sure that you sign and return your child's test after going over it with them at home. Unit 4 is all about multiplication and division. This week we will be exploring multiples of equal groups, multiplication arrays, and equal shares.
Homework:
- 4.1 due Tuesday
- 4.2 due Wednesday
- 4.3 due Thursday
Reading - Book clubs are well underway and will continue throughout this week. We will be discussing how to study our characters and jot purposefully about them when we come to the end of a book. We are also going to continue working on having thoughtful discussions with the members of our book club. For homework, students should read about 4 nights a week, for a total of 2 hours per week. They should log their "just right" reading each day in their reading logs (this now includes their book club books), and calculate and log the total number of pages and minutes read at the end of the week. Students are also encouraged to log any additional "free reading" they do at home, as well.
Writing - We are delving into the plots of our realistic fiction stories. We are going to compose and build upon plot maps throughout the week, and take a look at how writers reveal the characters in their books and SHOW not tell. For homework this week, students will review concepts we've previously studied in word study - proper use of "there", "their", and "they're", and contractions. A review page will go home in orange folders on Monday.
Social Studies - We are wrapping up our regions projects, and groups will present on Thursday. Next Friday, Nov. 7, we will have our geography assessment. While we continue to do some practice locating and identifying the 50 states on a map, students need to be sure they are practicing at home! They can use their practice quizzes, and continue to play games and watch videos posted on our third grade geography website.
Have a wonderful week!
