Hello! Here is the news for our class this week.
Math - Continuing with Unit 9, we will practice multiplication algorithms, determining factors of whole numbers, and sharing money.
Homework
- 9.3 due Monday, March 30
- 9.4 due Tuesday
- 9.5 due Wednesday
- 9.6 due Thursday
- 9.7 due Tuesday, April 7
Students should continue to review the multiplication facts that they need further practice with. Next week, we will have an assessment on the times 8 multiplication facts. In addition to completing the review packet as part of their 90 minutes of required math activity, the kiddos can practice with flash cards, fact triangles, and play multiplication math games.
Unit 8 assessments went home on Friday. Please sign, and have your child return them to school by this Thursday.
Reading - On Friday, students chose a person who has made a significant impact on our world to study in depth for our upcoming Living Museum. There will be more information to come on this later. This week, we will begin to preview and read a collection of texts on the people we are studying, and get to know their traits, and how the setting and environment in which they live(d) influenced their lives.
For homework, students should read about 4 nights a week, for a total of 2 hours per week. The children should log their "just right" reading each day in their reading logs and calculate and log the total number of pages and minutes read at the end of the week. The children may log any reading they do in their biography books, and are also encouraged to log any additional "free reading" they do at home, as well.
Writing - We are going to continue collecting opinions and ideas in our writing notebook about noteworthy people, places, and things in our world, as well as problems and solutions in the world around us, while working on revising our pieces as we go. We will choose a seed idea this week, and set goals for our writing, and gather all that we know about our opinion in this piece.
For homework, write a "flash draft" persuasive speech in your writing notebook. Write about a noteworthy person, place or thing or a problem in the world and a solution. Remember to write in paragraphs, and edit as you go along.
We will have our next word wall quiz on Tuesday, April 7. Have a wonderful week, and Easter Break!
