Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Break.
Next week, Third Grade will be hosting Lower School Chapel, on April 15. The third graders will need to head over around 7:50am to get ready. Please be on time! Parents and families, you are welcome to attend. The chapel service will begin at 8:15. Please sit on the right side facing the front on the first 12 pews. If those spaces are full, please go to one of the back pews. We hope to see you there!
Moms, please mark your calendars for our upcoming Mother's Day Tea, on Wednesday, May 6, from 9:45 to 11:00am! A formal invitation, and more information are forthcoming.
If you have not yet signed and returned your child's unit 8 math assessment, please do so ASAP.
Parents, please note that there will be no newsletter next Monday, due to the short week. Here is the news for our class this week!
Math - We are continuing unit 9, exploring "broken calculator" division, lattice multiplication, arrays, and equilateral triangles.
Homework:
- 9.7 due Tuesday, April 7
- 9.8 due Wednesday
- 9.9 due Thursday
- 9.10 due Monday, April 13
Students should continue to review the multiplication facts that they need further practice with. Next week, we will have an assessment on the times 9 multiplication facts. In addition to completing the review packet as part of their 90 minutes of required math activity, the kiddos can practice with flash cards, fact triangles, and play multiplication math games.
Reading - As we continue to prepare for our Living Museum and study our chosen people, we will look at how the setting and environment in which they live(d) impacted their lives, as well as their relationships with the people around them. For homework, students should read about 4 nights a week, for a total of 2 hours per week. The children should log their "just right" reading each day in their reading logs and calculate and log the total number of pages and minutes read at the end of the week. The children may log any reading they do in their biography books, and are also encouraged to log any additional "free reading" they do at home, as well.
Writing - We are going to begin drafting our seed ideas this week, gathering all we know about our claims, and organizing and categorizing our information by the end of the week. There is no writing assignment this week. : )
We will have our next word wall quiz on Wednesday, April 15.
Social Studies - Last week, we began our study of Economics. Throughout the unit, we will learn about wants vs. needs, producers and consumers, supply and demand, opportunity, cost benefits and incentives, and set up our very own classroom economy.
We are looking forward to a great week!
