Hello! I hope everyone had a great Fall Break. Here is the news for our class this week!
Your child's published Personal Narrative went home before Fall Break. If you have not already done so, please read and return their narratives as soon as possible.
Parents, if you need to pick up your child early, please send an email to Ms. Wright and Mrs. Rue in advance, when possible. When you do this, it will help prepare us to not only make sure that your child is ready when you pick him or her up, but we so we can also prepare any make-up work if necessary. Thank you for your help in this.
Math - This week in math we are going to further explore the concepts of area and perimeter. We will review for our unit 3 assessment on Wednesday, and have our assessment on Thursday.
Homework:
- 3.6 due Monday, Oct. 20
- 3.7 due Tuesday
- 3.8 due Wednesday
- We will skip homelink 3.9
Reading - Students have chosen a book series to read with their book clubs. Last week, they met with the members of their book clubs, and developed group expectations and set reading goals. As a class, we will be discussing how to study our characters and jot purposefully about them throughout a series. Students are also going to work on having thoughtful discussions with the members of their book clubs. For homework, students should read about 4 nights a week, for a total of 2 hours per week. They should log their "just right" reading each day in their reading logs (this now includes their book club books), and calculate and log the total number of pages and minutes read at the end of the week. Students are also encouraged to log any additional "free reading" they do at home, as well.
Writing - We are going to look at how writers reveal the characters in their books and SHOW not tell. We will also choose a seed idea to begin to draft for our realistic fiction stories, and begin to develop characters within our stories. For homework, students should complete the "Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then" story plan that will come home in their orange folders on Monday.
