I hope everyone had a great weekend. Here is the news for our class this week.
Our field trip to the High Museum of Art is on Tuesday. We will leave Lovett around 9:20 and plan to return at 12:00.
Third Grade Fun Night is this Friday, Sept. 26! Please have children bring their swimsuits and towels to school with them on Thursday. Please have all items labeled and in a bag, to be left at school for the next day. Girls should wear a one-piece bathing suit.
Please drop your children off at Sparkles (666 Smyrna Hill Dr. Smyrna, GA 30082) at 5:30pm. You might consider leaving a bit early to avoid traffic, so that the children have plenty of time to skate. Please remind your child to wear or bring socks! Also, please note that Lovett covers all costs, and children should not bring any money with them to Fun Night.
Pick up will be in the Lower School circle, promptly at 8:45pm. If your child will be riding home with another family, please email me, or send in a note with your child on Friday morning, letting us know whom they will be riding home with. If you plan to attend the Lovett football game that evening, an adult must come to the front of the Lower School and let your child's teacher know that you are there to pick up your child.
Later this week, we will send home a car pass for parents to display in their windows for Friday night pick-up. You will need this pass to enter school on Friday night, as campus may be closed due to traffic from the football game. Parents, you will need to enter Lovett from the front gate off of Paces Ferry.
Math - This week, we will explore comparison number stories, partial sums and subtraction algorithms, and adding with three or more addends.
Homework:
- 2.5 due Monday
- 2.6 due Tuesday
- 2.7 due Friday (This lesson will take two days, and students should not complete the home
link until Thursday afternoon.)
Don't forget to log your 90 minutes of math activity this week, and practice math facts (addition, subtraction, and multiplication).
Reading - We are still closely studying the characters in our books, and building theories around them. For homework, students should read for a total of 2 hours. They should log their reading each day in their reading logs, and calculate and log the total number of pages and minutes read at the end of the week.
Writing - We are beginning to wrap up our personal narratives this week. We will be working on paragraphing, writing stronger leads and endings, and revising before writing our final drafts. Homework is based in reading workshop again this week. We've been studying the behaviors of the characters in our books to make powerful predictions about what they will do next. Students should complete the reading response that will go home on Monday, and answer the questions about the characters in their "just right" books.
Have a great week!
